Killer gifts for Murderinos…get it? Get it? Well that’s not quite as clever (at. all) as the steady stream of hilarity offered up weekly by Karen and Georgia, the hosts of the insanely popular My Favorite Murder true crime comedy podcast. Yes, it’s funny! But not in a creepy way! Hard to explain, just listen. But if you’re reading this you or someone you love is likely already a murderino, as cute a name as you can give a fervent adorer of an all things murder podcast. I’ve been a murderino at heart since the tender age of 12 when I tried to dress up as obscure 1920’s killer Nathan Leopold for a book report - not approved - so ended up as Alfred Hitchcock instead, bald cap and pillow belly to boot. And with My Favorite Murder I found my people. So, here are the best My Favorite Murder gifts, from one murderino to another.
Murderino Coloring Book, $10.79 Not to sound sexist (she says as she continues), but given the overwhelming number of lady crafters who are big time fans, odds are good that these ladies are gonna get down with a coloring book. And I can say this because I am one of them.
My Favorite Murder Fan Cult Membership, $39.99 The MFM fan club, called the “Fan Cult”, cute, gives members access to pre-sale tiks to their live shows (which are amazing and sell out as fast as…a popular band), access to special content, discount on merch, and most tangibly, the above fan cult shirt and pin. Proud owner here. If your murderino isn’t on it, this is a good bet.
F#cking Hooray! Mug, $11.00 After all the grisly murder, Karen and Georgia each end with their Fucking Hooray!, a good thing for the week to end the show on a mildly positive note. It’s sweet and sarcastic - just like the podcast, and probably your murderino. This confetti sprinkled glossy mug is available in my finally updated Etsy store, yay! Please support me! This funzo graphic is also available as a comfy unisex shirt.
Hunt a Killer, Hawthorn Junction Set, $99 I’ve been drooling over this for a while. Hunt a Killer is a subscription box of physical clues and codes to be cracked to solve the case and find the killer. Their main subscription option is a little tricky for gifting since you need a 6 month subscription to finish the first “season.” But they also offer this Hawthorn Junction Set as a single box of clues to solve a case in one go - in this case, a quiet town where children start going missing. This set seems like a fun bingey option that you can wrap and give in person. But, hey subscriptions are a great last minute gift, so if you’re willing to shell out more $…
Stay Sexy & Don’t Get Murdered: The Definitive How-To Guide, $19.91 (available for pre-order) Karen and Georgia recently announced the release of their ”dual memoir” and you best bet it’s gonna rock the charts. This one’s a gimme, but it won’t be released until May 28, 2019. But for now you can pre-order and make sure your murderino snags the first copy.
Hand-Lettered Murderino Tote Bag, $19 I’m pretty proud of this Murderino tote. Totes original (eh? eh?) - I hand drew each letter to incorporate some MFM and true crime icon - “stay out of the forest”, tombstone, fingerprints, syringe, gun, coffin, bones, and handcuffs. It’s printed on a really sturdy tote, which I actually use as my primary purse. And this also comes as a cute mug!
I’ll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara, $18.95 Man, this book is probably the new true crime bible for murderinos. The author became totally obsessed with finding the Golden State Killer (a term she coined for this insanely heinous rapist murderer), died before she finished writing it, and then right after the book topped the bestseller list earlier this year, THEY CAUGHT THE KILLER. After over 30 years. I know. If you haven’t heard of this, the whole thing reads like a movie script. Oh also, I grew up down the street from where one of the murders took place. Murderino brag. Anyway, it was covered a lot on the podcast of course, but if you have a newer murderino on your hands, this will blow their minds.
Stay Sexy and Don’t Get Murdered “SSDGM” Ladies’ Scoopneck T-Shirt, $19 The podcast’s sassy sign-off “Stay Sexy & Don’t Get Murdered” has become THE MFM quote, and the acronymized version “SSDGM” has become an aloha-like goodbye greeting between murderinos. I like SSDGM because of it’s subtle subversiveness that only other murderinos will pick up on. This is a super soft scoop neck tee to flatter any murderino maven.
There you have it, now get to shopping! SSDGM, Paige
